Webflow Updates In August 2024

Every month, we're here to bring you the latest Webflow updates in a nutshell so you never miss a beat. August has been packed with new features and improvements designed to enhance your Webflow experience. From seamless Figma integrations to enhancements for Webflow Partners, there’s plenty to dive into. Ready to explore?

Let’s dive into the details of each update.

1st Update: Figma to Webflow Improvements

Webflow has made great strides in enhancing the Figma to Webflow integration, making it easier than ever to turn your Figma designs into clean, production-ready components. The updated Figma to Webflow plugin now supports automatic syncing of typography variables, including Figma's new typography features. Properties like font weight and style, which don't yet support variable binding, are seamlessly converted to static values.

Additionally, Webflow has redesigned the copy/paste workflow to be more intuitive, and pre-built layouts are now accessible via a dedicated tab. These improvements streamline the design-to-development process, ensuring your designs transition smoothly from Figma to Webflow.

2nd Update: Updates to Webflow’s Partner Program

If you’ve been part of the Webflow Experts program or are considering joining, this update is for you. Now, they're evolving the program to offer even more support to freelancers, agencies, and their clients.

Firstly, the name is changing from "Webflow Experts" to the "Certified Partner Program". Why the change? Because, as Webflow says, their partners do much more than provide expertise — they offer strategic partnership, from branding to conversion rate optimization.

But that’s not all. Webflow is introducing new tiers and growth opportunities within the program, so talented freelancers and agencies can more easily reach the highest level. Plus, the all-new Partner Hub centralizes everything Certified Partners need, from tier details to commission tracking and resources. You can see the full list of benefits for members of the program here.

3rd Update: Component Previews and Descriptions

Finding the right components for your project has become easier with the introduction of component previews and searchable descriptions. This update builds on previous improvements, such as component groups, to make the design process even more efficient.

Now, when you hover over any component in the Components panel, you can see a live preview of the component in action before adding it to your canvas. This feature eliminates the need to add a component to the canvas just to see how it looks, saving time and streamlining the design process.

Also, you can now add descriptions to any new or existing component directly from the component settings. This improvement makes it easier to organize and locate components, particularly in complex projects with numerous elements.

4th Update: Drop Shadow Filters

A new design tool is here to help you add depth and dimension to your projectsthe drop shadow filter. Unlike traditional box shadows that are confined to rectangular shapes, drop shadows conform to the exact contours of your elements, making them perfect for more complex and irregular shapes, such as transparent images, logos, and custom illustrations.

The drop shadow filter is now available in the Style panel under Effects > Filters, where you can customize various properties to achieve the perfect shadow effect. These properties include:

  • X and Y Offsets: Control the horizontal and vertical positioning of your shadow.
  • Blur: Adjust the softness of the shadow’s edges for a more diffused or sharp look.
  • Color: Choose the color and opacity of your shadow using the color picker, allowing for a wide range of creative possibilities.

One of the standout features of the drop shadow filter is its adaptability across different breakpoints. This means you can fine-tune your drop shadow settings for different devices, ensuring a consistent and polished look on all screens.

For those looking to add dynamic effects, drop shadows can now be animated using variables. By binding variables to the filter’s properties (such as offsets, blur, and color) and creating animations in the Interactions panel, you can produce smooth, engaging animations that enhance the user experience.

5th Update: Webflow Enterprise Summer Release: Page Building and Design Approvals

For enterprise teams, Webflow’s summer release brings powerful new features to streamline workflows and enhance collaboration. The Page Building and Design Approvals features are designed to optimize the balance between speed-to-market and quality control, a crucial consideration for professional web teams.

The new Page Building feature allows marketers and less technical team members to quickly and safely create brand-consistent landing pages using a drag-and-drop interface. These pages are built with designer-approved building blocks, ensuring that all marketing materials remain on-brand and visually consistent. This feature empowers teams to act faster and reduces the bottleneck of waiting for designers to create every new page.

The Design Approvals feature adds another layer of quality control, allowing proposed changes to the site to be reviewed and approved by the appropriate stakeholders. This process enhances governance and ensures that all updates align with the brand’s standards and objectives before going live. Together, these features provide enterprise teams with the tools they need to maintain high standards while accelerating the delivery of digital content.

6th Update: Updates to Site Role Names

Webflow has also simplified the naming of site roles to make them more intuitive and easier to understand for all users. While the capabilities of these roles remain unchanged, the new names provide greater clarity about each role's function within the platform. For example:

  • Site Admin is now Site Manager
  • Can Design is now simply Designer
  • Can Design (Limited) is now Limited Designer (available for Enterprise customers)
  • Designer (Needs Approval) and Marketer are new roles introduced for Enterprise customers.
  • Can Edit is now Content Editor
  • Commenter has been renamed Reviewer

These changes make it easier for teams to understand and assign roles within Webflow, reducing confusion and streamlining project management.
